Tim Bradley defeated Devon Alexander
In a bout between two young undefeated fighters Tim Bradley managed to win a tough fight that will hardly be listed as a classic. Much was anticipated but this was bout showed that sometimes when two evenly match fighters, you get a tough fight to score. Bradley won in a quite anti climatic way when the fight was stop on cuts due to accidental head butts and Bradley was ahead on all of the scorecards.
This was a hard fight to score as Bradley and Alexander connected on the same number of punches and the boxer threw the more punches. What gave Bradley the edge with the judges was his pressure tactics, which neutralize Alexander slightly higher punch total.
This fight had two major problems. The first problem was Bradley rough style of fighting. Bradley is a smart fighter and he adjusts his style to his opponent. Bradley challenge was Alexander quick hands and boxing skills, so he pressured Alexander while reducing Alexander silky smooth style. Bradley proved not to be silky smooth but he did manage to rough Alexander up while neutralizing Alexander advantages in hand speed.
In the first round, Alexander connected on some nice blows and forced Bradley to miss on a couple of wild punches but at the end of the round, Bradley trapped Alexander on the rope and while he managed to connect a right hand, most of the combinations were blocked.
In the third round, Bradley successfully nailed with some clubbing right but the major event of the round was a head butt that opened up a cut over Alexander’s right eye. This was the first of many head butts that occurred due to a southpaw-orthodox fighter but also to Bradley style of getting close to Alexander in an effort to slow the quicker Alexander down.
In the fourth round, Bradley landed two giant right hands that allowed him to take the round but in the fifth round, Alexander boxing style took the round.
In the sixth thru ninth round, Bradley had the edge as he not only successfully landed the bigger punches but his frontal attacking style impressed the judges.
At the beginning of the tenth round, another head butt forced Alexander to see the ring physician. Complaining of a stinging sensation in his eyes, Alexander could not continue and the fight went to the scorecard.
Bradley won the fight by being more aggressive but it was not a dominant performance. Both fighters were even in skills with Bradley pressure style up against the boxing skills of Alexander. Neither could gain an advantage over the other and this lead to a close but often a sloppy fight.
So what now? Alexander may want a rematch but Bradley wants a bigger fight against Amir Khan and of course Manny Pacquaio but the latter is a long shot. The 140 pound division is becoming one of boxing deepest and Bradley along with Alexander will be part of some intriguing and possibly classic fights.
Alexander, Bradley along with Khan are young fighters who just entering their peaks. Their history has yet to be completed and written in its final form.

Tim Bradley Media Day Workout (Video)
Timothy Bradley’s fight week media day work out took place at the famed Kronk Gym on Tuesday, January 25, 2011. When you think Kronk Gym, you think Tommy Hears. Hearns got into the ring, eventually putting the mitts on and worked with Bradley for about 15 minutes, wowing the media and bystanders. He said “I love to take risks. That’s what this fight is all about. To be the best, you’ve got to beat the best.”

Watch Alexander vs. Bradley on Saturday Night
At the Pontiac Silverdome this Saturday one of my favorite fighters, Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley, squares off in a battle against up and comer Devon Alexander “The Great.” On the line will be the WBO and WBC light welterweight titles, and perhaps more importantly, pride. Both fighters are undefeated and looking to stake their claim as ruler of the 140 lb division. The winner of this fight might be in line for a huge pay day against Amir Khan, or possibly even pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao.
Watch Devon Alexander vs Timothy Bradley Live.
Pac Man’s team recently made it clear that Manny will no longer be moving up in weight, so any top contender in the 140-147 pound range is fair game. The winner of the Bradley-Alexander fight could land a mega PPV fight with either of the aforementioned pugilists, both of whom have huge followings which generally equates to glorious PPV numbers.
So how will this fight pan out and who appears to have the edge? Personally, I love Bradley’s style even though he probably doesn’t appeal to most casual boxing fans. Most casual fans of the sport only want to see guys with power who are capable of dropping their opponents in a crumpled heap on the canvas with one punch. If a poetic observer described this bout as a gun fight, Bradley probably wouldn’t even be bringing a knife to it; rather, a flyswatter. The man simply lacks power. Casual fight fans like to see Howitzers, not Super Soakers.
But what Bradley lacks in power he makes up for with his throwback style and sheer determination. His ring generalship is excellent and he possesses all the intangibles you want to see in a true champion. He’s technically sound, fast as lightning, has an impressive ring IQ, and punches effectively in combinations. Bradley’s chin is sturdy but not granite. In his last fight against Kendall Holt he was dropped twice, but neither knockdown had him severely hurt or wobbly. Both were basically flash knockdowns where he was caught a little off balance and got hit with a flush shot from a guy with a ton of power. He clearly out boxed Holt throughout the fight and won a decisive unanimous decision.
Devon Alexander’s style presents such a stark contrast to Bradley’s which is what should make this a very entertaining fight. Alexander has what casual fight fans adore: power and chin. His back has never touched the canvas and he has solid power in both hands. He is undefeated, although he was the recipient of a somewhat lucky decision in his last fight. Alexander struggled to adapt to a game Andriy Kotelnik but received a hometown decision victory in August of 2010. His struggles in that fight are the main reason why I think he’ll have his hands full against Timothy Bradley.
Bradley is extremely versatile while Alexander is more of a one trick pony. Bradley can mix it up from the outside and the inside even though he’s only about 5’6″. He is smart enough to adapt to his opponents and is tough as nails. Bradley has the edge in speed, technique, experience, mental & physical toughness, ring generalship, and pretty much any intangible you can think of. Alexander has the edge in power and chin only.
From a gambling perspective, I like my man Desert Storm to win by decision. I would advocate betting on the Over for the Over/Under Round Prop option, but there is some very heavy juice you must lay on the Over so it’s not worth it. Bradley doesn’t have the power to KO Alexander, so unless Alexander quits on his stool or suffers a fluke cut above his eye it looks like this one is destined for the cards. Alexander’s best chance to win this bout is via KO, but given the fact that Bradley has already stood up to some of the biggest punchers in the division I don’t foresee Desert Storm succumbing to the power of Alexander.
I guess we shall find out this Saturday night on HBO when these 2 undefeated warriors clash in “the Mitten.”

Devon Alexander, Tim Bradley Discuss Their Inspirations
FanHouse has been forwarded the third installments of training camp notes for both 27-year-old WBO junior welterweight (140 pounds) king Tim Bradley and 23-year-old southpaw WBC titlist Devon Alexander as they prepare to face each other in Saturday night’s HBO televised clash from the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Mich.
Nicknamed, “The Desert Storm,” Bradley (26-0, 11 knockouts) is promoted by Gary Shaw and hails from from Palm Springs, Calif. Alexander (21-0, 13 KOs), who is called, “The Great,” is promoted by Don King and is from St. Louis, Mo.

Devon Alexander
Inspirations: My mom has been a great inspiration to me because she raised 13 kids with practically nothing but determination and hard work.
She has been one of my best role models. She always taught me to reach for what I want to achieve. I always looked up to her because she got all of us clothed and fed and kept us safe.
When I look back now as a young man, it’s an amazing thing to look back at what she was able to accomplish. I lost my dad to cancer in 2004, but he was an inspiration, too.
He was the one who taught me to be humble. He always told me when I would come back from an amateur boxing tournament where I had done well that he was proud of me.
But he was quick to remind me not to get a big head, to stay grounded at all times and don’t ever think you are better than anyone else just because you performed well in a particular competition.
My trainer, Kevin Cunningham, is someone I met when I was seven-year-old. He’s been me with ever since. He has taught me many things.
Here are few of them: Never give up and remember very few things in life that are good are easy to obtain. He always told me to work hard and look what it has done for me.
His advice is what has helped me to get to whatever heights I have reached in boxing and in life.
Boxing Inspirations: Muhammad Ali has always been one of my favorite boxers because he was so fast and cocky, but confident in a good way.
‘Sweet Pea’ Pernell Whitaker was a guy I loved to watch because he was a southpaw, like me, and always had the best defense.
Cory Spinks let me train in his camp in St. Louis since I was very young. He was my idol, and as I grew up I realized that I could hone my skills, as he had done, and hopefully someday do it better.
I don’t feel like I’m a clone of Cory. I definitely took some pages out of his book. Sometimes, when I watch myself on tape, I’ll see myself doing something Cory did a long time ago.
That brings a smile to my face. It’s just part of who I am now.

Inspirations: When I sit and think of my life and who have been my inspirations, heroes and motivators, I have to start by acknowledging God and my family.
The one person that I can assure you deserves to be my hero is definitely my father. My motivators in life are my family and all the people who surround me with their great support every day of my life.
My family supports me unconditionally. I am the man that I am today not only because of the life experiences that I have encountered, but also my wife and her kids. Before I met my wife Monica, I was a young man living the single life.
But once we were married, I knew this would have to change if I was going to be a good role model to my kids and a good enough man to stand next to this strong woman.
My relationship with my dad is so special to me because he has taught me determination, work ethic and, most of all, that life is about choices.
One thing that he made clear to me at a young age is that everyone has a fair shot at life. Therefore, life will be what we make of it.
He also has given me my place as a man and has allowed me to make my own choices even when he knew they were wrong.
But the one thing that I am most grateful that he has taught me is that the most important thing in your life as a man should be your family. Not work, money or materialistic things, but your family.
Boxing inspirations: The people who inspire me on my quest to be the best are my family and boxers Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
In the ring, Mayweather and Pacquiao are by far among the best fighters in the world and have been an inspiration of who I want to be in terms of athleticism – the best.
Aaron Pryor, Henry Armstrong and Meldrick Taylor are the three fighters whose fighting styles I have modeled. Both Aaron and Henry were relentless fighters with great head movement.
Meanwhile, Meldrick possessed great punching combinations, desire and determination. Even though all the people have been important in helping define who I am, I don’t believe they would be possible without the faith God has given me.
For this, I am grateful.

Alexander vs. Bradley: A Good Fight
People seem to be surprised that the Devon Alexander vs. Timothy Bradley fight is not sparking all the fireworks that they imagined. Some writers view this fight like the modern version of Thomas Hearns vs. Marvin Hagler. If people got off their opium of hype and took a reality break maybe they would understand why this fight isn’t the super fight that it’s been hyped up to be. Don’t get me wrong, this should be and probably will be a good fight, but it’s not a super-fight like some hype spinners would like to make it.
Devon Alexander hasn’t really done much to merit the title of being called a great fighter; he is actually an average boxer. He was able to knockout Juan Urango, which indicates Alexander has punching power. Yet Alexander went on to really lose his fight against Andriy Kotelnick, although the judges gave Alexander a gift. In his bout with Kotelnick, Alexander was exposed for the limited fighter he is. Alexander is not able to control a fight; he has few ring generalship skills. Once you negate Alexander’s power he is helpless because his boxing skills are average to say the least. Alexander simply doesn’t have the skills to control a fight against a decent boxer.
Timothy Bradley looks like a weight lifter and he fights like one. Bradley has no power in his punches. He throws pitty patty punches because he cannot extend his arms fully to put some explosives into them. You could say that Bradley touches not punches. Although Bradley is fast he lacks true rhythm. Bradley’s style of fighting is not a good one to watch, it is not fan friendly; it is like the sound of finger nails scraping a blackboard.
When you put these two styles together, Alexander and Bradley, it may turn out to be just a stare contest. It can turn out into two guys posturing in front of each other with no one really taking a risk. To make it a good fight, they are going to have to become aggressive and go for the knockout. Alexander has not shown that he has the spirit necessary to walk down a boxer like Bradley and knock him out. Bradley will try to make it a chess match and win the decision. Alexander cannot win a decision; it is up to Alexander to make this an exciting fight by cornering Bradley and knocking his head off. Alexander has to exert pressure on Bradley for twelve rounds to make this a good fight.
What is commendable about this fight between Alexander and Bradley is that they are willing to fight each other. We live in a time when marketing has taken over boxing and good old fashion fights don’t happen that regularly. Alexander and Bradley are willing to face anyone you can place in front of them, they aren’t running or hiding like most boxers today. That is what fans appreciate from these two champions. If these two fighters go for the knockout and don’t spend twelve round staring at each other, this will be a good fight.
I would like to see the winner of this fight face Marcos Maidana or Victor Ortiz if he is still hanging around this division (Ortiz is probably already a welterweight), those will be exciting matchups and will really fill up stadiums. Because of Amir Khan’s style of running I don’t think he would make a good fight with either Alexander or Bradley. Bradley would just out speed him and Alexander doesn’t have the fire to go after runners.

Alexander vs. Bradley tickets not selling in Pontiac
It seems that WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander (21-0, 13 KO’s) and WBO light welterweight title holder Timothy Bradley (26-0, 11 KO’s) may have made a huge mistake by choosing to fight in a neutral venue instead of in either of the two fighters’ home cities. Instead of having good ticket sales for their January 29th fight, the sales for their fight are reportedly terrible. No, their actually far worse than terrible.
According to Michael Marley at examiner.com, only 339 tickets have been sold for the Alexander-Bradley clash at the Pontiac Silverdome, in Michigan. Why they decided to fight in that place is beyond me. That seems like an insane place to put their fight, because it’s not close to either of the two fighters’ home cities and it’s a venue that is almost doomed for failure. They should have agree to place this fight in Las Vegas.
It’s too late now, though, because they’re going to have to deal with the poor ticket sales and use it as a learning tool for the future. Had they place it in Alexander’s home city of Saint Louis, Missouri, there would likely already be 10,000 tickets sold for the fight. Bradley doesn’t bring in huge numbers for his fights in Rancho Mirage, California, but they’re certainly a lot better than 339 tickets. That’s horrible.
Whatever the case, the Alexander-Bradley fight is going to be a good one. It’s going to be shown on HBO, and the winner of the bout will then be taking on WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan at some point in 2011. Khan is HBO’s newest darling, and they’re expecting great things from him in the future. Alexander or Bradley can really throw a wrench in their plans by taking out Khan and unifying the light welterweight division.

Alexander vs. Bradley: Devon needs to use his reach advantage if he wants to win
WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander (21-0, 13 KO’s) is going to have problems with the speed and combinations of WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (26-0, 11 KO’s) on January 29th at the Silverdome, in Pontiac, Michigan. Bradley is simply too good on the inside with his fast combinations for Alexander to compete in that area of the fight. Alexander has got the reach advantage of two inches over Bradley and the much better jab.
Alexander has to use his reach if he wants to win this fight. He’s not going to be able to beat a quality fighter like Bradley by mixing it up with him. Bradley has shown in fights against Luis Carlos Abregu, Lamont Peterson and Nate Campbell that he’s second to none when coming inside and throwing powerful shots with a lot of speed on them.
Alexander, however, did well in his fights against Juan Urango and Junior Witter but looked completely out of his element against Andriy Kotenik. Alexander looked as if he had just laced up a pair of gloves for the first time in that fight, and just didn’t seem to have a clue what to do with Kotelnik. Alexander struggled from the start to the last of that fight and is mighty lucky that he was able to win a hometown decision. This time Alexander is going to need to keep his distance, keep his guard up and try to keep Bradley away from the inside where he likes to land his shots.
