Tim Bradley defeated Devon Alexander

By Admin  //  Alexander vs Bradley  //  No Comments

bradley defeated alexander 300x247 Tim Bradley defeated Devon AlexanderIn a bout between two young undefeated fighters Tim Bradley managed to win a tough fight that will hardly be listed as a classic. Much was anticipated but this was bout showed that sometimes when two evenly match fighters, you get a tough fight to score. Bradley won in a quite anti climatic way when the fight was stop on cuts due to accidental head butts and Bradley was ahead on all of the scorecards.

This was a hard fight to score as Bradley and Alexander connected on the same number of punches and the boxer threw the more punches. What gave Bradley the edge with the judges was his pressure tactics, which neutralize Alexander slightly higher punch total.

This fight had two major problems. The first problem was Bradley rough style of fighting. Bradley is a smart fighter and he adjusts his style to his opponent. Bradley challenge was Alexander quick hands and boxing skills, so he pressured Alexander while reducing Alexander silky smooth style. Bradley proved not to be silky smooth but he did manage to rough Alexander up while neutralizing Alexander advantages in hand speed.

In the first round, Alexander connected on some nice blows and forced Bradley to miss on a couple of wild punches but at the end of the round, Bradley trapped Alexander on the rope and while he managed to connect a right hand, most of the combinations were blocked.

In the third round, Bradley successfully nailed with some clubbing right but the major event of the round was a head butt that opened up a cut over Alexander’s right eye. This was the first of many head butts that occurred due to a southpaw-orthodox fighter but also to Bradley style of getting close to Alexander in an effort to slow the quicker Alexander down.

In the fourth round, Bradley landed two giant right hands that allowed him to take the round but in the fifth round, Alexander boxing style took the round.
In the sixth thru ninth round, Bradley had the edge as he not only successfully landed the bigger punches but his frontal attacking style impressed the judges.

At the beginning of the tenth round, another head butt forced Alexander to see the ring physician. Complaining of a stinging sensation in his eyes, Alexander could not continue and the fight went to the scorecard.

Bradley won the fight by being more aggressive but it was not a dominant performance. Both fighters were even in skills with Bradley pressure style up against the boxing skills of Alexander. Neither could gain an advantage over the other and this lead to a close but often a sloppy fight.

So what now? Alexander may want a rematch but Bradley wants a bigger fight against Amir Khan and of course Manny Pacquaio but the latter is a long shot. The 140 pound division is becoming one of boxing deepest and Bradley along with Alexander will be part of some intriguing and possibly classic fights.

Alexander, Bradley along with Khan are young fighters who just entering their peaks. Their history has yet to be completed and written in its final form.

Devon Alexander vs Timothy Bradley (Live Streaming)

By Admin  //  Alexander vs Bradley  //  No Comments

A title unification between two undefeated young champions…how can you do better than that?

WBO Light Welterweight Champion, Timothy Bradley, 26-0, 11 KO’s, worked very hard to earn his spot and the respect of the fans, but has done so with his will to win and tenacity. He would win the WBC version of the title in 2008, defeating Junior Witter by decision, and has beaten Kendall Holt, Nate Campbell, and the undefeated challenger in Lamont Peterson. He currently holds the WBO brand of the title and has been pushing for a showdown with Devon Alexander for a long time.

Alexander, 21-0, 13 KO’s, won the vacant WBC title in 2009 with a stoppage of Junior Witter and more impressively, stopped Juan Urango, picking up the IBF version of the title. In his last fight, he struggled with Andriy Kotelnik en route to a close decision win. That performance may place him as the underdog going into Saturday’s showdown, but it’s really a pick’em sort of fight…a great fight for the fans.

So don’t forget to watch Alexander vs Bradley Live Stream this weekend.

When you think Kronk Gym, you think Tommy Hears. Hearns got into the ring, eventually putting the mitts on and worked with Bradley for about 15 minutes, wowing the media and bystanders. He said “I love to take risks. That’s what this fight is all about. To be the best, you’ve got to beat the best.

Watch Alexander vs. Bradley on Saturday Night

By Admin  //  Alexander vs Bradley  //  No Comments

alexander vs bradley 202x300 Watch Alexander vs. Bradley on Saturday NightAt the Pontiac Silverdome this Saturday one of my favorite fighters, Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley, squares off in a battle against up and comer Devon Alexander “The Great.” On the line will be the WBO and WBC light welterweight titles, and perhaps more importantly, pride. Both fighters are undefeated and looking to stake their claim as ruler of the 140 lb division. The winner of this fight might be in line for a huge pay day against Amir Khan, or possibly even pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao.

Watch Devon Alexander vs Timothy Bradley Live.

Pac Man’s team recently made it clear that Manny will no longer be moving up in weight, so any top contender in the 140-147 pound range is fair game. The winner of the Bradley-Alexander fight could land a mega PPV fight with either of the aforementioned pugilists, both of whom have huge followings which generally equates to glorious PPV numbers.

So how will this fight pan out and who appears to have the edge? Personally, I love Bradley’s style even though he probably doesn’t appeal to most casual boxing fans. Most casual fans of the sport only want to see guys with power who are capable of dropping their opponents in a crumpled heap on the canvas with one punch. If a poetic observer described this bout as a gun fight, Bradley probably wouldn’t even be bringing a knife to it; rather, a flyswatter. The man simply lacks power. Casual fight fans like to see Howitzers, not Super Soakers.

But what Bradley lacks in power he makes up for with his throwback style and sheer determination. His ring generalship is excellent and he possesses all the intangibles you want to see in a true champion. He’s technically sound, fast as lightning, has an impressive ring IQ, and punches effectively in combinations. Bradley’s chin is sturdy but not granite. In his last fight against Kendall Holt he was dropped twice, but neither knockdown had him severely hurt or wobbly. Both were basically flash knockdowns where he was caught a little off balance and got hit with a flush shot from a guy with a ton of power. He clearly out boxed Holt throughout the fight and won a decisive unanimous decision.

Devon Alexander’s style presents such a stark contrast to Bradley’s which is what should make this a very entertaining fight. Alexander has what casual fight fans adore: power and chin. His back has never touched the canvas and he has solid power in both hands. He is undefeated, although he was the recipient of a somewhat lucky decision in his last fight. Alexander struggled to adapt to a game Andriy Kotelnik but received a hometown decision victory in August of 2010. His struggles in that fight are the main reason why I think he’ll have his hands full against Timothy Bradley.
Bradley is extremely versatile while Alexander is more of a one trick pony. Bradley can mix it up from the outside and the inside even though he’s only about 5’6″. He is smart enough to adapt to his opponents and is tough as nails. Bradley has the edge in speed, technique, experience, mental & physical toughness, ring generalship, and pretty much any intangible you can think of. Alexander has the edge in power and chin only.

From a gambling perspective, I like my man Desert Storm to win by decision. I would advocate betting on the Over for the Over/Under Round Prop option, but there is some very heavy juice you must lay on the Over so it’s not worth it. Bradley doesn’t have the power to KO Alexander, so unless Alexander quits on his stool or suffers a fluke cut above his eye it looks like this one is destined for the cards. Alexander’s best chance to win this bout is via KO, but given the fact that Bradley has already stood up to some of the biggest punchers in the division I don’t foresee Desert Storm succumbing to the power of Alexander.

I guess we shall find out this Saturday night on HBO when these 2 undefeated warriors clash in “the Mitten.”

Devon Alexander, Tim Bradley Discuss Their Inspirations

By Admin  //  Alexander vs Bradley  //  No Comments

Alexander vs Bradley live fight 300x200 Devon Alexander, Tim Bradley Discuss Their InspirationsFanHouse has been forwarded the third installments of training camp notes for both 27-year-old WBO junior welterweight (140 pounds) king Tim Bradley and 23-year-old southpaw WBC titlist Devon Alexander as they prepare to face each other in Saturday night’s HBO televised clash from the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Mich.

Nicknamed, “The Desert Storm,” Bradley (26-0, 11 knockouts) is promoted by Gary Shaw and hails from from Palm Springs, Calif. Alexander (21-0, 13 KOs), who is called, “The Great,” is promoted by Don King and is from St. Louis, Mo.

Watch Devon Alexander vs Timothy Bradley Live.

Devon Alexander

Inspirations: My mom has been a great inspiration to me because she raised 13 kids with practically nothing but determination and hard work.

She has been one of my best role models. She always taught me to reach for what I want to achieve. I always looked up to her because she got all of us clothed and fed and kept us safe.

When I look back now as a young man, it’s an amazing thing to look back at what she was able to accomplish. I lost my dad to cancer in 2004, but he was an inspiration, too.

He was the one who taught me to be humble. He always told me when I would come back from an amateur boxing tournament where I had done well that he was proud of me.

But he was quick to remind me not to get a big head, to stay grounded at all times and don’t ever think you are better than anyone else just because you performed well in a particular competition.

My trainer, Kevin Cunningham, is someone I met when I was seven-year-old. He’s been me with ever since. He has taught me many things.

Here are few of them: Never give up and remember very few things in life that are good are easy to obtain. He always told me to work hard and look what it has done for me.

His advice is what has helped me to get to whatever heights I have reached in boxing and in life.

Boxing Inspirations: Muhammad Ali has always been one of my favorite boxers because he was so fast and cocky, but confident in a good way.

‘Sweet Pea’ Pernell Whitaker was a guy I loved to watch because he was a southpaw, like me, and always had the best defense.

Cory Spinks let me train in his camp in St. Louis since I was very young. He was my idol, and as I grew up I realized that I could hone my skills, as he had done, and hopefully someday do it better.

I don’t feel like I’m a clone of Cory. I definitely took some pages out of his book. Sometimes, when I watch myself on tape, I’ll see myself doing something Cory did a long time ago.

That brings a smile to my face. It’s just part of who I am now.

Tim Bradley

Inspirations: When I sit and think of my life and who have been my inspirations, heroes and motivators, I have to start by acknowledging God and my family.

The one person that I can assure you deserves to be my hero is definitely my father. My motivators in life are my family and all the people who surround me with their great support every day of my life.

My family supports me unconditionally. I am the man that I am today not only because of the life experiences that I have encountered, but also my wife and her kids. Before I met my wife Monica, I was a young man living the single life.

But once we were married, I knew this would have to change if I was going to be a good role model to my kids and a good enough man to stand next to this strong woman.

My relationship with my dad is so special to me because he has taught me determination, work ethic and, most of all, that life is about choices.

One thing that he made clear to me at a young age is that everyone has a fair shot at life. Therefore, life will be what we make of it.

He also has given me my place as a man and has allowed me to make my own choices even when he knew they were wrong.

But the one thing that I am most grateful that he has taught me is that the most important thing in your life as a man should be your family. Not work, money or materialistic things, but your family.

Boxing inspirations: The people who inspire me on my quest to be the best are my family and boxers Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

In the ring, Mayweather and Pacquiao are by far among the best fighters in the world and have been an inspiration of who I want to be in terms of athleticism – the best.

Aaron Pryor, Henry Armstrong and Meldrick Taylor are the three fighters whose fighting styles I have modeled. Both Aaron and Henry were relentless fighters with great head movement.

Meanwhile, Meldrick possessed great punching combinations, desire and determination. Even though all the people have been important in helping define who I am, I don’t believe they would be possible without the faith God has given me.

For this, I am grateful.

Devon Alexander vs Timothy Bradley: The Super Fight Approaches

By Admin  //  Alexander vs Bradley  //  No Comments

alexander vs bradley 202x300 Devon Alexander vs Timothy Bradley: The Super Fight ApproachesOn Saturday, January 29th, two undefeated boxers will face one another for bragging rights within the light welterweight division.

Watch Devon Alexander vs Timothy Bradley Live.

Devon Alexander, 21-0, 13 KO’s will fight Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley, 26-0, 11 KO’s, with the WBC and WBO Light Welterweight titles on the line. I knew it was only a matter of time before the light welterweight division would finally allow itself a shakeup.

Bradley is currently ranked #1, followed by WBA Champion, Amir “King” Khan, 24-1, 17 KO’s, ranked at #2, and then #3 ranked Alexander. It’s a shakeup to say the least, only because Bradley and Alexander will probably have to face each other again. And, I think Khan will face either Bradley or Alexander at some point this year as well.

If you look at both Bradley and Alexander, both fighters have had the good luck and even skill to have fairly similar records. But it’s been only recently that they have really had to develop and grow as boxers in their last bouts.

Ah, the wonders of the DVR – I still had Bradley’s and Alexander’s last bouts recorded. Here’s just an inkling of what I observed and also just what might happen once the two go up against one another.

First and foremost, Alexander is a southpaw. Bradley would have to make necessary adjustments to make sure he isn’t in a direct line to a power shot. Physically, Alexander has a height and a reach advantage. Alexander stands at 5’7 with a 71 inch reach. Bradley stands at 5’6 with 69 inch reach.

As far as strength goes, I give the edge to Bradley. As I’m starting to really look at the fighters, I find myself flip flopping in boxing traits and statistics. Physical analysis can only mean so much. Southpaws, still in my opinion, just always manage to make their opponents look awkward. Bradley will have to really stand and fight to take the fight away from Alexander.

In his last bout against Luis Carlos Abregu, 29-1, 23 KO’s, Bradley started the fight strong. He’s physically just a strong fighter and he can definitely bully his opponents, but his KO record speaks to looking for that one punch.

He’s definitely not a single, power punch boxer that looks for the KO. Bradley fights fairly consistently over 12 rounds, with the opening 3 rounds really showing effective combinations and power punches. However, because he does look for the single KO punch, his counter punching isn’t always as good and he can get caught looking ineffective.

Bradley must also just relax in his punching and put together more fluid punch combinations and counters. He has a good jab in combination and fights well in the middle of the ring.

As for Alexander, he has excellent hand speed as well as a better jab. Back in August, Alexander fought against Andriy Kotelnik, 31-4, 13 KO’s, in defense of both the WBC & IBF Light Welterweight titles. With his bout against Bradley, the IBF title is now vacated with a title bout set up for Zab Judah, 40-6, 27 KO’s, versus Kaizer Mabuza, 23-6, 14 KO’s.

Against Kotelnik, Alexander earned the 12 round unanimous decision, but not without blood. Alexander had suffered a cut over his right eye as the result of a headbutt. So, both Bradley and Alexander will hopefully avoid the clash of heads that may result in a TKO.

Similar to Bradley, however, as much as Alexander is a quick starter, he started to get tagged a little bit more frequently once Kotelnik opened up the middle and started to fight inside followed by a flurry of punches to both the head and body. Alexander started to lose steam, including his jab, after the 8th round or so.

Alexander will need to train and fight for a 12 round fight.

With the recent emergence of Amir Khan and Zab Judah, the light welterweight division is filled with potential match-ups. I like Khan’s presence in the division because once he really starts to open up with his jab, he could be a fierce competitor. Khan is the current WBA Light Welterweight titleholder and with a potential match in April this year. I am very curious to see who will be Khan’s opponent.

Judah, by contrast, has always been a strong, solid boxer with good hand speed as well. And, should he emerge as the new IBF titleholder, both Bradley and Alexander may have some thinking to do about potential opponents.

I hope the bout between Bradley and Alexander will be a good one. If both Bradley and Alexander only look for the one punch, it just might be a very boring fight. Should they decide to exchange on the inside, there is the possibility of a bloody clash of heads. But the more I keep thinking about what I observed in their last bouts, Bradley and Alexander really do need to fight one another and put their undefeated records and titles on the line.

Now, I know I mentioned Khan and Judah, but really, whoever loses, neither Bradley nor Alexander will have to look very far for any future opponents. I’m sure this will be the first of many exchanges between both fighters – can we say Bradley vs. Alexander 2?

Devon Alexander vs Timothy Bradley Boxing Predictions

By Admin  //  Alexander vs Bradley  //  No Comments

With fight week just a scant two days away, boss scribes, fighters and trainers are weighing in on who they think will win The Super Fight, pitting undefeated American champions DEVON ALEXANDER vs TIMOTHY BRADLEY against each other to determine the true 140-pound world champion. Promoted by Gary Shaw Productions, Don King Productions and Thompson Boxing Promotions, Alexander vs. Bradley will take place Next Saturday! January 29, at the Silverdome in Pontiac, Mich. and will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing, beginning at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. ET. Remaining tickets, priced from $25 to $400, can be purchased at the Silverdome box office, by calling (248) 338-2500 or online at www.silverdome.com.

Alexander “The Great” punches harder and has the ability to end the fight at any time, but “Desert Storm” is the faster, better, more complete fighter. He’ll outwork Alexander, moving in and out behind the jab and throwing flashy combinations. Alexander will have his moments, and may even drop Bradley, who has a penchant for getting defensively sloppy. But “Desert Storm” has come back from a big knockdown before, and he’ll do it again. Go with Bradley by exciting 12-round unanimous decision.
- Matthew Aguilar, El Paso Times

Timothy Bradley is fighting a hungry Devon Alexander. Devon will win this fight by KO after he wears down Bradley and finishes the fight in the 9th round.
- Bob Barton, The St. Louis American Newspaper

Bradley by decision. I respect Alexander’s speed and skill, but Bradley is his equal in almost every area. With both guys so close, you’ve got to gauge heart. Bradley is a few valuable years older, he’s a bit more experienced, and I don’t know any fighter as hungry as the pride of Palm Springs.
- Greg Beacham, Associated Press

This is a terrific matchup. Alexander is a very good technical fighter and has the southpaw advantage. However I believe Bradley will prevail, having fought better opposition with wins over Witter, Holt, Peterson and Abregu. Nothing takes the place of big fight experience and quality competition.
- Dan Birmingham, Two-Time BWAA Trainer of the Year

Tim Bradley by 11th round TKO. Alexander is the consummate boxer but Bradley is the stronger puncher with the ability to land on anyone. Alexander will give him trouble for a time with his style but at some point Bradley will close the gap and, in the end, close the show.
- Ron Borges, Boston Herald

This has the making of a Motor City classic. Plenty of horsepower. Style and substance. Both are young and fit and their tanks are full. But, I’ll take Bradley to win by TKO in the 10th round, when Alexander finally runs out of gas.
- Mike Brudenell, Detroit Free Press

This figures to be a very close, competitive fight. Both Bradley and Alexander have strength and style and can adjust over 12 rounds. Bradley’s experience may be the difference however and he may be better suited to make whatever changes are necessary during the fight to win. And he will have to adjust because Alexander is going to bring a lot of energy and speed and he’s going to have his chances to put him away. Bradley by split decision in what should be a great way to kick off 2011.
- Steve Carp, Las Vegas Review-Journal

A fight between undefeated fighters. I m looking for a big win, a big knockout for Devon. Then he can call out Manny Pacquiao s name and an even bigger fight.
- Abac Cordero, The Philippine Star

I like Bradley by decision in what should be a very busy fight.

- Tim Dahlberg, Associated Press

It s a 50/50 contest with both fighters clearly of world class status, entering their prime. How boxing needs more of these unification contests. There is much at stake, and it is an intriguing fight. I make Timothy Bradley marginally the favourite, capable of working well at 140 in spite of often giving up height and reach advantages. Devon Alexander can at times, rely on his power more, and although Bradley lacked lustre in his last contest stepping up to 147lbs from 140lbs in the mind s eye he dealt effectively with Kendall Holt, Nate Campbell, Lamont Peterson, and indeed Junior Witter. Southpaw Alexander, however, on paper, looks the more decisive, having stopped Witter in the eighth, and Juan Urango in the same round. Like Amir Khan, a rival of both men, Alexander worked for a unanimous decision over Andreas Kotelnik, without looking great, in his last outing. Hard call, but I’ll tick Bradley, who will move cleverly and sneak a points decision. The winner leaves with great spoils and serious clout for a mega pay-per-view showdown late in 2011.
- Gareth Davies, The Daily Telegraph (UK)

Even when Manny Pacquiao captured the lineal 140 lb. championship, it was still my belief that Tim Bradley was – and still is – the best active 140 lb. fighter on the planet today. That’s no slight on Devon, whom I’ve long admired and see greatness in his future. However, on January 29, Tim will provide confirmation for long overdue recognition as the 140 lb. king in a spirited and surprisingly dominant performance. Bradley by unanimous decision.
- Jake Donovan, MaxBoxing.com

Tim Bradley by unanimous decision.
- Bill Dwyre, Los Angeles Times

This one is coin-flip close. I’ll really be surprised if either fighter dominates the other. That said, picking a draw is the coward’s way out. As of today (tomorrow, who knows?) I’m leaning to Bradley by split decision.
- Bernard Fernandez, Philadelphia Daily News

I like Bradley by hard-fought decision. I wouldn’t be shocked if it was a very close majority or even split nod for the Palm Springs native. It’s an even matchup, but I favor Bradley because of his experience and versatility. I think he’ll mix his attack up more than Alexander will and he’ll out-maneuver the St. Louis champ when he has to.
- Doug Fischer, RingTV.com

It will be a technical contest with no knockdowns and no high drama. Alexander’s jab will be nonstop throughout the contest but Bradley is a superior counterpuncher and he has more power. Bradley outboxes Alexander to win a unanimous decision although it won’t be easy or pretty.
- Flattop, FightNews.com

Tim Bradley, by decision. Bradley s versatility will offset the speed and dangerous right upper-cut possessed by the left-handed Devon Alexander. It figures to be very close. Adjustments are the key. With a quick jab, good right hand and solid body punches in an offense complemented by agile defense, the multi-skilled Bradley can make more of them.
- Norm Frauenheim, 15Rounds.com

Bradley by decision. He s tougher and savvier. Listening to Alexander on the conference all, I don t think he has any idea what he s getting into.
- Leighton Ginn, The Desert Sun

Alexander will win by decision

- Marvin Goodwin, The Oakland Press

I like Devon Alexander by a close but unanimous decision. Both fighters are incredibly skilled, but in the end, Devon s ring savvy will be too much for Bradley.
- Jim Hayes, FOX Sports Midwest

Timothy Bradley is more skilled, smarter and better conditioned. If I didn t KO Bradley Alexander sure won t. Bradley by unanimous decision or late stoppage.
- Kendall Holt, former WBO junior welterweight champion

I like Bradley. I like the way he fights and think he is a very good, sharp fighter too. I think it will be a competitive fight but Bradley will win by decision.
- Bernard Hopkins, Two-Division World Champion

Bradley by unanimous decision. This is a pick ‘em fight, but Bradley, despite that it doesn’t look pretty sometimes, always finds a way to win. The biggest fight of his career will be no different.
- Keith Idec, The Record/Herald News

Bradley is a tough, hard-nosed guy who happens to have a lot of skill and resiliency. It will be a dog-fight, but those are the kinds of fights in which Bradley is at his best.
Bradley by decision.
- Kevin Iole, Yahoo! Sports

I think Bradley will certainly give Alexander his toughest test. Don’t let Bradley’s knockout ratio fool you. He is a very strong fighter, which could give Devon problems, but I believe Devon has enough mental toughness to overcome Bradley’s onslaught. I like Devon to win because of his huge heart. In addition to that heart, his ability to adjust to situations is what gets him over the top in this one. Alexander by unanimous decision
- Arthur Flash Johnson, KMOX-AM

Devon Alexander has shown in the past, the ability to bounce back in dominating fashion from sub-par performances. Timothy Bradley has very good boxing skills, but I believe we have seen him hit the peak of his ability, whereas we’ve not even come close to witnessing the full potential of Devon Alexander. Alexander’s superior boxing skills, endurance, and under-appreciated chin should be the difference in this one. Alexander scores at least one knockdown, wins by Unanimous Decision, and shows he is the top dog at 140 lbs.
- David Kassel, BoxingObserver.com

Alexander will eventually emerge triumphant, probably by late-round (10th, 11th) stoppage. It could be a fight of the year candidate.
- Michael Katz, Gaming Today

I like Bradley by decision. I think while there are some stylistic difficulties for him, I like his advantage in hand and foot-speed.
- Steve Kim, MaxBoxing.com

Both fighters are going to do some damage, and a good number of rounds are going to be very difficult to score. But in the end, Devon has a harder head and hands that are a bit heavier and a bit quicker. That will carry him to the win. Alexander by unanimous decision.
- Max Leinwand, FOX Sports Midwest

I’d go with Bradley by decision. Bradley is a good all-round fighter, but more importantly he’s a clever fighter who can adapt to an opponent and works out how to win. Bradley has the edge in experience and I believe, in a fight like this, that will be vital.
- Ron Lewis, The Times (UK)

When you have two elite fighters at the top of their games, it’s hard to pick a favorite. Still, Bradley has the most experience and if he can withstand Alexander’s power he should be able to outbox the younger champion. Take Bradley by decision.
- Chris Mannix, Sports Illustrated

Timothy Bradley is a tremendous talent, but a savvy gameplan and an accumulation of power punches will elevate Devon Alexander “The Great” to the summit of the junior welter division. Alexander, TKO 10.
- Glenn McBrady, The St. Louis American Newspaper

Bradley for me. Classier, tougher. Alexander didn’t impress against Kotelnik, a decent but no longer elite fighter. Bradley’s got the more impressive cv, especially against Peterson, Holt, Witter.
- Kevin Mitchell, The Guardian (UK)

Bradley is fast, but speed won’t win this one. The best plan and the fighter, who is willing to stick to it, will prevail. The combination of trainer Kevin Cunningham’s sage advice and Devon’s execution of said advice is what puts him over the top. Alexander by unanimous decision.
- Dave Patek, Saturday Evening Fisticuffs

In the days of yore, the original Alexander the Great went undefeated. Devon Alexander “The Great” will have serious difficulty with Timothy Bradley’s straight-ahead quickness but he will out box his opponent and continue a centuries old winning tradition: Alexander upsets Bradley and wins a split decision on January 29, 2011.
- Gary Andrew Poole, contributor, TIME and The Atlantic / author of Pacman: Behind The Scenes With Manny Pacquiao

Alexander by decision.
- Dan Rafael, ESPN.com

Devon Alexander has met every challenge that has come his way, and I expect no exception in this fight with Timothy Bradley. It will go the distance with Alexander scoring a split-decision win.
- Alvin A. Reid, 101ESPN Radio

Bradley by unanimous points decision. He is just a little bit too slick and tidy and his stamina is underrated.
- Martin Rogers, Yahoo! Sports

Devon Alexander by decision. I believe that it will come down to a battle of the corners, with Alexander’s tight punches up the middle and his southpaw style being channeled by trainer Kevin Cunningham straight up the middle. Bradley will start out faster, but Alexander will remain composed. Alexander’s consistency down the stretch will be the difference in a very, very, very tight decision.
- Lem Satterfield, AOL Fan House

This is a tough one to call. I like Alexander’s firepower and his punching power. At the same time I like Bradley’s bulldog determination and toughness. So I’m going to take the coward’s way out. A Draw. And a rematch!
- Tim Smith, New York Daily News

Looking forward to a real 140-pound Super Bowl. I think Bradley can pressure Alexander, build up points over 12 rounds, and win by decision.
- Don Steinberg, The Wall Street Journal / The Philadelphia Inquirer

I like Alexander by a decision. I think despite the fact that he took way too many punches against Kotelnik, he is typically a very slick defensive fighter. Bradley will be a huge test because, he’s always in great shape and forces you to fight but, you’ve got two fighters who aren’t huge punchers. I give the speed and defensive edge to Alexander who will win by decision.
- Bob Stelton, 101ESPN Radio

Both of these fighters are at the top of their games and I’m just happy they’re fighting now rather than later. I’ll have to go with Bradley by decision or maybe even late-round stoppage. Bradley has shown that he can box, counter punch, punch and if it comes down
to a heart check he can fight. He’s shown in the past that he can overcome adversity in the ring and somehow pull victory from the jaws of defeat. Those are the intangibles that a great champion has to have. In Alexander, even though he’s a very gifted fighter, I can’t get the images of his last fight out of my head. At times he seemed as if he had no Plan B. He got hit a lot more than I thought he would, considering he’s such a good boxer. He’ll have to have the mental strength to put that entire fight out of his mind — as if it never happened — and focus on the guy in front of him. He can t get sucked into trying to atone for his last outing by attempting to do something great against Bradley causing him to fight outside of himself. He’ll have to dictate the action with clean combination punching and not be there for the return in order to give himself the best chance to win. I don’t believe Alexander can stop Bradley from doing what he does best. Bradley by unanimous decision.
- Antonio Tarver, Two-Time Light Heavyweight Champion

The fight will go the distance. Bradley is a smart fighter and will figure out Alexander’s aggressive style, counter at every opportunity and use his jab to keep Alexander at bay. Alexander needs to use his jab early and often as well, and hope his speed and southpaw style will be able to overcome Bradley’s ring skills and experience. It will be close, but Bradley will win by majority decision.
- Bob Velin, USA Today

I’ll take Bradley to win what should be an exciting fight that will go the 12-round distance. Both fighters are talented, but I think Bradley has proven himself against a tougher class of opponents.
- David Weinberg, The Press of Atlantic City

Tony Canzoneri by early knockout.
- Jack Welsh, Long Distance

Bradley by unanimous decision. His quickness will give him the points he’ll need at the end.
- Mark Whicker, Orange County Register

Bradley by decision. His strength and will should earn him a narrow victory.
- George Willis, New York Post

Will styles make this fight what it is? Will Alexander be able to smack and move, rinse and repeat, his way to a win? Or will Bradley just get in his face, stay in his face, and windmill his way to the win? Or& will experience win out? Bradley s been on bigger stages for longer. And I m having a hard time getting past the fact that Alexander was life and death with Andreas Kotelnik. He s tough, and talented& but no superstar. Was it just an off night for Alexander perhaps? Too many questions, too little clarity. This is a 50-50 affair. I am
going with the experience edge; I m picking Bradley, because I think his pressure will be too much, and I see his right counter bothering Alexander. Bradley, unanimous decision, by two-point margin.

Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander speak from respective training camps

alexander vs bradley fight1 300x200 Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander speak from respective training campsIn anticipation of their big 140-pound HBO televised showdown at the Silverdome in Pontiac, MI, on January 29, world junior welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (26-0, with 11 KOs) and titleholder Devon Alexander (21-0, with 13 KOs) had plenty to say from their respective training camps today.

Watch Devon Alexander vs. Timothy Bradley live!

TIMOTHY BRADLEY:
“I am still here training at the Boys and Girls club in Indio, California. This is where I have always trained for my fights and what works for me.

“I am ahead of schedule so the following week I will be closing my training camp with my fitness coach and will continue to work in the gym on the game plan.

“My training regimen is more so new school and I have incorporated strength training as of August.

“We are getting closer to the 29th and as that is soon approaching there is more intensity in all that I do and I also start tapering off my workouts.

“At this point in my training camp I feel like every day has a moment like in the Rocky films. When I am sparring or when I’m running and just feel like I have pushed myself to the limit and can’t go any more I start to talk to myself and become the one that tells me to push it.

“I hear a voice within me that tells me to keep going… keep on it, keep pushing. Yeah, I want this for me but also I want this for everyone… my family, the kids I coach and to those whose lives I’ve touched in any way in my work with the community.

“I always have a motto that I follow and take to heart and that is that at the end of that night (fight night) my family will be the one that eats. I know that every man is hungry out there and that is why I need to be the one starving.

“I feel that my motto will not only help me keep mental focused and determined but it also keeps me grounded. I train hard every day because I want to be remembered as one of the best fighters years from now. I know this is not an easy thing to accomplish but with God’s help I know that I will one day accomplish my goal. Turning in now. Lights out.”
DEVON ALEXANDER:
“We are in the heart of our training camp. I’m here in Las Vegas sleeping in Mike Tyson’s old bed in Don King’s house at night, pounding the pavement for six miles every morning and in the gym every afternoon for training and sparring.

“You can’t beat a fight town like Vegas to find good sparring partners. It is critical for my preparation. I have guys here who are not just giving me good rounds, they are giving me good looks-the kind of looks I expect to see from Tim Bradley come Jan. 29 at the Silverdome.

“A daunting challenge is when we drive up to Mt. Charleston three times a week to run on the mountain road I call The Monster. It’s one thing to run it in the summer. It’s quite another to face it in the dead of winter.

“I had a TV crew from HBO up there with me on The Monster last week, and we got snowed off the mountain! We are up so high I’m jogging by people who are skiing at the Mt. Charleston Ski Resort. Heck, it snowed two inches in Vegas the other day! So much for fun in the sun….

“My trainer, Kevin Cunningham, has been with me since I was 7. I wouldn’t be where I am today without him. He is an excellent trainer. His goal is to make sure I peak on the night of the fight. We are moving towards that goal every day. I feel like that is exactly where we will be come fight night.

“I can tell you one thing for sure: Timmy Bradley is going to have to deal with what I am preparing for. This isn’t a hobby for me, it’s my job. Bradley is not going to come to Detroit at the end of this month and take what I have worked my whole life to gain.

“He will have to deal with what I am going to bring. I know he’s trying to boast himself up, trying to convince himself of all the things he’s going to do. Well, I remember something Felix Trinidad said when Fernando Vargas was doing a lot of bragging before they fought. He said there is an old Puerto Rican saying that goes like this: ‘It is one thing to call out the devil, and it is quite another to see him coming.’ You’ll see what happens to Timmy Bradley when he sees me coming.”
