Alexander vs. Bradley on January 29th Live on HBO

By Admin  //  Alexander vs Bradley  //  No Comments

alexander vs bradley fight1 300x200 Alexander vs. Bradley on January 29th Live on HBOOne of the most anticipated fights in boxing — and the biggest bout of a young 2011 — will take place when undefeated world champions DEVON ALEXANDER “The Great” and TIMOTHY “Desert Storm” BRADLEY duke it out at the 140-pound weight limit on Saturday, January 29 at the Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan.

Boxing fans have been waiting for years to see these two young world champions collide. The St. Louis phenom Alexander (21-0, 13 KOs), who will put his unblemished record and World Boxing Council (WBC) super lightweight championship at risk while Bradley (26-0, 11 KOs), from Palm Springs, Calif., enters the bout with a similarly perfect record and his World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior welterweight crown on the line.

Tickets, priced from $25-$400, will go on sale This Friday! December 10, and can be purchased at the Silverdome box office, by calling (248) 338-2500 or online at www.silverdometickets.com. The event is being promoted by Gary Shaw Productions, Don King Productions and Thompson Boxing Promotions..

“I’m extremely excited about this fight being announced,” Alexander said. “The fans will finally get to see what I believe is going to be one of the best fights in boxing, the two best 140-pounders going head to head. Tim Bradley is considered No. 1 at 140 and I’m considered No. 2, but anybody that knows me will say that I don’t like being second best at anything. Come January 29, the whole world will know I am the best 140-pounder in boxing.”

Not surprisingly, Bradley sees it differently.

“Devon Alexander is a skilled southpaw that lacks championship fight experience,” Bradley said. “There has been so much talk in the past about me avoiding him but I have never passed the opportunity to beat any other former champions. Now the time has come to prove who the best junior welterweight in the world is and I hope that Devon is ready for the can of whoop ass I’ll be serving him on January 29th.”

Alexander, 23, had two career-defining wins in 2010: a scintillating eighth-round knockout via right uppercut of then-International Boxing Federation (IBF) champion Juan “Iron Twins” Urango on March 6, and, in his most recent defense on August 7, Alexander held back a strong challenge from Andriy Kotelnik to win a unanimous decision by identical scores of 116-112.

Alexander won his first title, the WBC super lightweight championship by stopping the former holder of that crown, Junior Witter when they met on August 1, 2009, in Southern California. (Ironically, it was Bradley who had vacated the WBC crown.)

Alexander has successfully emerged from behind the shadow of fighting most of his career out of the Cory Spinks camp. He has elusive defensive skills – no doubt picked up from his mentor – but has shown enough firepower to become a legitimate knockout threat.

Bradley, 27, won his first world title in 2008, travelling across the pond to dethrone the defending WBC super lightweight champion Junior Witter in the Englishman’s backyard of Nottingham, England. Bradley’s sixth-round knockdown of Witter shocked the hometown crowd as Bradley won a hard-fought split decision.

One year later, in his second championship defense, Bradley unified the title by dominating then-WBO champion Kendall Holt. Bradley weathered a first-round knockdown, and showed his trademark heart and determination during the remainder of the match, to win by unanimous decision.

Bradley opted to keep the WBO junior welterweight title. He has successfully defended that title twice. In August 2009 he dominated former world champion Nate Campbell before an accidental clash of heads near the end of round three led to the fight later being ruled no contest when Campbell could not continue due to a nasty gash over his left eye.

Bradley followed that with a December 2009 schooling of undefeated interim WBO champion Lamont Peterson, which included a third-round knockdown, the first time Peterson had ever hit the canvas in his 27-bout professional career.

With no worthy contenders available to defend his title against, Bradley moved up to 147 pounds and won a 12-round unanimous decision over undefeated Top-10 welterweight contender Carlos Abregu on July 17.

“If Alexander vs. Bradley doesn’t get your heart pumping then you aren’t alive,” said Bradley co-promoter Gary Shaw. “This isn’t just a title unification fight, this is for the whole ball of wax — the class of the junior welterweight division colliding head-on to determine the world champion. One thing I admire about both these men. When a challenge is made, they don’t make excuses, they make fights.”

Bradley co-promoter Ken Thompson has a similar view.

“This fight has been long awaited by boxing fans since in fact it’s a battle between the best junior welterweights on the planet,” Thompson said. “Two undefeated fighters will decide the future of the division and what better neutral ground than the Motor City – Detroit. I have known Tim Bradley since he laced gloves for the first time as a professional, and he has never stopped amazing me with his talent and charisma inside the ring. Alexander will have his hands full on a great Motown boxing night.”

Alexander promoter Don King is excited to see his young world champion entering the biggest match of his career.

“I have promoted Devon Alexander’s entire professional career, and I couldn’t be prouder of this fine young man,” King said. “He’s a model citizen in St. Louis and the world’s treasure as a fighter. Devon and Timmy are two of the best American fighters we have, and, most important, they are two of the best people we have in the sport. Boxing fans and the sport will be the winners for this world championship unification.”

Alexander vs. Bradley will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing, beginning at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT

“We believe Alexander vs. Bradley is a spectacular way to launch a new season of boxing on HBO,” said Kery Davis, senior vice president of programming, HBO Sports. “Fight fans have the date circled on their calendars and sports fans everywhere should do the same.”

Pascal vs Hopkins Boxing Fight end in 12 Round Majority Draw

By Admin  //  Boxing Live Streams  //  No Comments

pascal vs hopkins 300x190 Pascal vs Hopkins Boxing Fight end in 12 Round Majority Draw45-year-old Bernard Hopkins came up short in getting a win on Saturday night again WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal and had to settle for a 12 round majority draw at the Pepsi Colisseum, in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. The final judges’ scores were 114-112 Hopkins, 113-113, 114-114.

The problem that Hopkins has was that he was knocked down in the 1st and 3rd rounds of the fight. He then had to come back from that. Hopkins fought well in the second half of the bout, landing nice shots and getting the better of Pascal most of the time. Pascal seemed clueless, looking a lot like 41-year-old Roy Jones Jr. by not throwing punches and just looking to hold.

Pascal had the talent but just seemed frozen and not sure how to use it. Pascal did little after the first six rounds until waking up in the 11th and 12th and finally fighting back. The last two rounds were all action.

In the end, Hopkins had too many points to make up and would have needed a perfect fight to get the win. Unfortunately, he didn’t sweep the remaining rounds of the fight and had to settle for a draw. Because of that, Pascal retains his title and Hopkins has to go back to the drawing board and figure out what he wants to do next.

Also Paul Malignaggi TKO-6 Michael Lozada, Daniel Jacobs TKO-5 Jesse Orta, Peter Quillin KO-1 Martin Desjardins, Tyson Fury UD-8 Zack Page, Kevin Bizier TKO-3 Ronnie Warrior Jr.

Pascal vs Hopkins: Breakdown

By Admin  //  Boxing Live Streams  //  No Comments

hopkins pascal breakdown 300x205 Pascal vs Hopkins: BreakdownDon’t miss all the action this Saturday, December 18, as WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal puts his titles on the line against future Hall of Famer and light heavyweight king Bernard Hopkins at Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada and televised live on Showtime. What’s at stake? How will the fight play out? Check out the FightHype Breakdown to see why you don’t want to miss this fight!

WHAT DOES IT MEAN…

The end of 2010 has been good to us as boxing fans…there were events, there were dramatic fights, and there were terrific performances.  The only thing left to decide is the light heavyweight champion, and that gets sorted out this Saturday.

Jean Pascal won the championship from Chad Dawson in August.  A betting underdog coming off his longest career layoff, he was able to out-hustle Dawson, who seemed unable to adjust to Pascal’s movement, speed and style.  By the time Pascal got off and moved, Dawson was just trying to get set.  Pascal has proven willing to fight just about anyone they will put in front of him, from Adrian Diaconu, in a battle of undefeated fighters with huge Canadian support, to Chad Dawson the champ…all the way across the pond in England to meet Carl Froch in his own backyard.  So it should come as little surprise that he was happy to oblige Bernard Hopkins’ desire for another crack at the 175-pound championship.  If Pascal wins, he could be in line for a fight with the Super Six winner, or a match-up against fellow countryman Lucian Bute in what would be an absolutely huge event in Canada.  If Pascal were to lose, there is always the rematch with Dawson, or even a fight against one of the Super Six losers looking to move up to 175.

For Bernard Hopkins, the end of the line has to come at some point in time, right?  He will be 46 in a month and has had a storied first ballot Hall of Fame career.  After a long and unparalleled reign as the middleweight champion, he moved up to fight Antonio Tarver in a grudge match. From there, he went on to meet Winky Wright at a catch-weight and handled him before losing to Joe Calzaghe.  Everyone expected him to be done after that, but with one more great performance, he met Kelly Pavlik at a catch-weight of 170 pounds and beat, what appears to be, the career out of him. To me, that was the perfect time to walk away.  Instead, he had a couple more fights, one of which was against Roy Jones Jr. coming off a first round knockout loss and , unfortunately, it seemed to show some of that age on Ex.  I would like to think that with a win here, Hopkins will walk away, but you just never know with the guy.  Same goes for a loss. Bernard Hopkins is one proud fighter and sometimes, those guys just refuse to walk away.  So with that, I won’t even begin to guess what he could or would do next, win or lose.

WHEN THE BELL RINGS…

No matter how many times I try to think this fight through, I come to one conclusion…Bernard Hopkins will try to slow this down, turn it ugly, and make it a less than entertaining affair because with that comes his best chance.

Recently, we saw Jean Pascal consistently beat Chad Dawson to the punch and use a lot of leg work to keep the fight at a tempo he liked best.  Many seemed to question his stamina in that fight because he would appear to take rests and then flurry, but a lot of that had to do with coming off the longest layoff of his career.  Moreover, Dawson is a guy with quick hands and very good counter punching ability, so the last thing Pascal wanted to do was stay around too long and get caught clean.

Bernard Hopkins is most comfortable if he can hold and mug on the inside, counter from the outside, and get his opponent to dispense with their jab. Taking away the jab has always been key for him, and Bernard Hopkins does it as well as anyone I have seen.

From the opening bell, expect Pascal to push the pace and make the much older man uncomfortable with the amount of work he will have to do in order to keep up.  Pascal likes to leave his hands low at times so he can uncoil a big shot, and will even jump in if he feels comfortable, but he will also work in behind a jab and happily war on the inside; not mug, but fight.  It would not surprise me to see Hopkins get warned early and often for holding, and since he is fighting in the champ’s backyard, it is something to keep an eye on.

After the first few rounds, it will probably look something like the first Jermain Taylor fight.  Hopkins will be behind and working to nullify the hand and foot speed advantage of his opponent, but the difference here is that he is 5 years older, and Pascal not only has a better chin and better footwork than Taylor, but he also has better stamina.

As the middle rounds begin to pass, Bernard Hopkins will have his moments, highlighted by the straight right, and his dedication to defense.  Slip and fire…feint and the moment Pascal bites, throw the lead right followed by the top of the head.  The champion may very well grow frustrated at times, and Hopkins is a master at sensing that, but with the championship rounds approaching, will he be able to close the gap and completely take over the fight?

THE CALL…

This isn’t Jean Pascal’s first time in a big event; he has been there before, whether it was in Canada against other big names, or in England against Carl Froch.  He knows what a big crowd feels like, and he knows what a big fight feels like – he won’t be intimidated by the moment.

At this point in time, Hopkins just doesn’t fight enough in each round to wear a guy like Pascal down.  Even if Pascal only wanted to fight for half the round, it would be more than what Hopkins is comfortable with these days; and to be fair, he is just shy of 46, so what can you really expect?  In your mid-40′s, eventually you go in there and it just is not there like it once was; the skills are, so is the mentality, but that athletic ability just cannot match the hungry 28 year old across the ring from you.

Hopkins will try to surge a bit when he feels he has slowed things down and increased the mugging, but it just won’t be enough, especially in Pascal’s hometown.  As he has gotten older, it has always been those fast twitch fighters that cause Hopkins the most problems…Jermain Taylor and Joe Calzaghe are the two that come to mind.  Jean Pascal is from that mold too and has a style that he mixes up well in there.

I am not sure that I see this fight turning out to be all that entertaining, but for the first time, I figure that we will see people hard pressed to argue that Hopkins won the decision, even Bernard himself. Oh, he’ll try to state his case, but at his age, he just will not have enough.

Pascal by unanimous decision is the call…116 – 112, maybe 117 – 111 with the hometown crowd influencing the judges in a close round or two.  And with that, we bid farewell to 2010 and look forward to what appears to be a nice start to 2011.  Happy holidays fight fans!

NAAZIM RICHARDSON, Hopkins’ Trainer

“We were at home anticipating the weather. It isn’t as bad as we thought it was going to be. It is very nice here.

“We look forward to an outstanding show. As we were preparing for Pascal, a lot of people were giving me information about what to expect. I have been watching this man since he was an amateur coming up.

“You can’t anticipate a man’s ambition. He has great ambition. He is an outstanding athlete.

“As you watch my athlete [Hopkins], please give him his due to respect. Please understand this man’s age, what he has accomplished and what he has been able to do for years.

“He is exceptional and I want him to get his just due. Trust me, if he wasn’t prepared, I wouldn’t be here. The preparation will all come to fruition on Saturday.

“If Pascal dares to be great, he will have a phenomenal outcome in this show.”

YVON MICHEL, President of Groupe Yvon Michel

“This event will be the most successful boxing event ever in Canada financially speaking.

“Two months ago, Jean Pascal and Bernard Hopkins were like school friends. Now it looks like that’s finished. They’ve had warrior’s faces since they walked in here this morning.

“‘Dynasty’ is the beginning and it’s the end. No matter what happens Saturday, this fight will have a colossal impact on the career and the life of these two guys.

“Everything we have done to prepare this event, was in close collaboration with Golden Boy Promotions. We are very proud to work with this organization. We have worked with a lot of promoters in the States, but this one is a first class organization.

“Jean Pascal could have chosen anyone in his division, but he chose the riskiest, the most complicated opponent. Jean is undoubtedly the most talented boxer in his division.”

RICHARD SCHAEFER, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions

“Thank you so [to Team Pascal and Groupe Yvon Michel] much for giving us this opportunity. We have worked with many promoters. Usually we do all of the work. Here, Yvon Michel took the lead and put this great big promotion together. Once Bernard wins, we can do the rematch in the United States and then we will show you what we can do.

“We want to thank SHOWTIME because now fight fans in the United States can enjoy this fight for free.

“This is a global event. It is being shown all over the world. We made a deal last week with China. There will be tens of millions of people watching this fight from the beautiful city of Quebec.

“There is some great young talent on this card. Peter Quillin and Daniel Jacobs from New York and Mikael Zewski from Canada are on the card. He is our first Canadian signing. He is a great young fighter with a promising future. Paulie Malignaggi will be on the card as well. Fans should arrive to the Pepsi Coliseum in time to see these great fighters.

“Naazim Richardson has been with Bernard for many years. He is one of the most respected trainers in boxing. He has guided the legendary career of Bernard Hopkins and has helped him make it to this journey to make history again.

“Nobody gave Bernard a chance against Tito Trinidad. Nobody gave Bernard a chance against Oscar de la Hoya. Nobody gave him a chance against Antonio Tarver and nobody gave him a chance against Kelly Pavlik. He proved everyone wrong. He did it again and again and keeps doing it. Here he is, twenty-eight days from his 46th birthday. He is trying to rewrite history yet again.

“He is going to prove everyone wrong. All of you out there, I give you one piece of advice…never bet against this man [Hopkins].”

MAYOR REGIS LABEAUME, Mayor of Quebec City

“Good luck to both guys. I am sure both of you will win. That would be the perfect scenario for me because you would have to come back.”

“On behalf of Ken Hershman, the General Manager and Executive Vice President of SHOWTIME Sports, I would like to thank you all for being here. Pascal vs. Hopkins is our last major boxing event of the year and it concludes an excellent run of world championship boxing on our network. It all culminates on Saturday night in what will be our biggest and best show of the year.

“This was originally slated as a pay-per-view. But SHOWTIME pulled some year-end resources together and worked with Yvon Michel and Richard Schaefer in order to move this telecast directly to our linear channel for the U.S. audience. At SHOWTIME, we strive to televise the most compelling, the most competitive and the most significant matchups in all of boxing directly to our subscribers. Pascal vs Hopkins Undercard

By Admin  //  Boxing Live Streams  //  No Comments

Pascal vs. Hopkins 300x156 Pascal vs Hopkins Undercard Before future Hall of Famer Bernard Hopkins he faces WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal on December 18 live on SHOWTIME® in the U.S. and pay-per-view in Canada, a squad of undefeated locals featuring Kevin Bizier, Michael Zewski, Pier-Olivier Cote and Eric Martel-Bahoeli, will join standout fighters including former Junior Welterweight World Champion Paulie “The Magic Man” Malignaggi, highly-regarded contender Daniel “The Golden Child” Jacobs and unbeaten New Yorker Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin as they face off in respective bouts in front of an expected sold out arena of more than 16,000 fans at the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec City, bringing some heat to the Great White North. If that wasn’t enough, there’s more with British heavyweight sensation Tyson Fury also appearing.

Watch Pascal vs Hopkins Live Stream!

One of boxing’s most charismatic figures, Paulie Malignaggi (27-4, 5 KO’s) has thrilled fight fans with his fast hands and brash antics for nearly a decade. Now making his ring debut as a Golden Boy Promotions fighter, he’s looking for another world championship belt. A former Junior Welterweight World Champion, Malignaggi has gone toe-to-toe with the likes of Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz (twice), Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton, Amir “King” Khan, Lovemore “Black Panther” N’dou and Miguel Cotto, but the 30-year-old from Brooklyn believes the best is yet to come.

In the opposite corner from Malignaggi will be 27-year-old Michael Lozada (36-6-1, 29 KO’s), a power- punching resident of Mexico City who has won seven of his last eight bouts, with each win coming by way of knockout and his lone loss coming at the hands of rising star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Malignaggi and Lozada will battle in a ten-round welterweight fight which will be featured on the Canadian pay-per-view broadcast.

26-year-old Saint-Emile native Kevin Bizier (12-0, 8 KO’s) has been moving full steam ahead since turning professional in 2008, and after back-to-back knockouts of Johnny Navarrete and Leonardo Rojas he’s ready to showcase his talents to fans both at the Pepsi Coliseum and across Canada on the pay-per-view broadcast this Saturday night. Bizier will go for his third KO in a row when he steps into the ring to face Oklahoma City’s Ronnie Warrior (13-3-1, 4 KO’s) in an eight round welterweight contest.

Top middleweight contender Daniel Jacobs (20-1, 17 KO’s) showed a warrior’s heart when he faced Dmitry Pirog in a WBO World Title bout in July shortly after the passing of his beloved grandmother. Although he suffered his first professional defeat that night, the gifted Brooklynite has picked himself up, dusted himself off and looks to close out 2010 in style when he takes on Dallas’ Jesse Orta (7-13-2, 4 KO’s) in an eight-round super middleweight bout.

One of Canada’s top heavyweight prospects, Eric Martel-Bahoeli (5-0, 3 KO’s) is looking toward a big 2011, but first, he must close out his 2010 campaign with a four round clash against Bayamon, Puerto Rico’s Ruben Rivera (3-4, 1 KO’s).

Manchester, England’s Tyson Fury (12-0, 9 KO’s) is a certified star in his home country, and in only his second fight off of British shores, he’s looking to make an impression when he squares off against Galen Brown (33-15, 20 KO’s) of St. Josephs, Missouri in the evening’s opening pay-per-view fight. An exciting two-fisted banger, Fury won the BBBofC English heavyweight title in 2010 with a ninth round stoppage of John McDermott and he’ll be looking for his fourth win of the year this weekend.

No stranger to fighting on big undercards, Quebec City’s Pier-Olivier Cote (13-0, 8 KO’s) will return to the Pepsi Coliseum for the third time as a professional to face Mexico City’s Cesar Soriano (21-25, 13 KO’s) in a six-round lightweight contest. One of Canada’s top prospects, the 26-year-old is coming off a sixth round knockout of Walter Sergio Gomez in October, his fourth victory of 2010.

A proud native of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, 21-year-old Mikael Zewski first came to the attention of the boxing world during a stellar amateur career that saw him compile a 138-29 record that included four Canadian National Championships. Now 5-0 as a professional with three knockouts and a recent decision win over Ardrick Butler in November, Zewski is ready for his four-round junior middleweight bout against a yet-to-be-named opponent in front of his fans in Quebec.

Unbeaten in 21 professional fights, Brooklyn’s Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (21-0, 15 KO’s) pays tribute to his Cuban heritage and legendary namesake each time he steps into the ring by delivering an all out effort in search of victory. A versatile pugilist, Quillin returned from a nearly two year layoff due to injury with a near shutout decision win over Fernando Zuniga in February. He will take on Quebec’s Martin Desjardins (7-18-4, 3 KO’s) in a ten round super middleweight fight.

Owner of multiple National Championships during a stellar 143-16 amateur career that also saw him ranked number one in the United States as a Junior Olympian in 2007, Cleveland’s junior middleweight Eduardo Alicea will travel to Canada to make his long-awaited professional debut on December 18 in a four round contest against an opponent to be determined.

Pascal vs Hopkins (Live Streaming)

By Admin  //  Boxing Live Streams  //  3 Comments

Pascal vs. Hopkins 300x156 Pascal vs Hopkins (Live Streaming)When Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins faces WBC, Ring Magazine and IBO Light Heavyweight Champion Jean Pascal on December 18 at the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec City, Canada live on SHOWTIME® in the U.S. and on pay-per-view in Canada, he will be 28 days shy of his forty-sixth birthday. If Hopkins defeats Pascal, he will become the oldest fighter in the history of the sport to win a significant world title, 38 days older than “Big” George Foreman was when he defeated Michael Moorer for the Heavyweight World title on November 5, 1994.

Watch Pascal vs Hopkins Live Stream Online!

“The difference between me and Foreman is that most people didn’t think Foreman could do it. He was the underdog of all underdogs when he faced Moorer,” Hopkins said. “Not only do people think I can win, they think I can win big, and I plan on proving them right.”

Despite his age, Hopkins has shown no signs of slowing down. He has won five of his last six fights and is no stranger to facing younger opponents with five of his in-ring rivals having been over a decade younger than him during his 22-year career. The most notable of these was Kelly Pavlik, whom Hopkins defeated on October 18, 2008. At the time of the Pavlik vs. Hopkins fight, the 17-year age gap between the two foes was the largest of Hopkins’ career, until now.

Because Pascal is six months younger than Pavlik, there is a nearly 18 year age disparity between Hopkins and the Light Heavyweight World Champion Pascal, which is serving as a motivating factor in this fight for “The Executioner.”

“Youth doesn’t bother me,” said Hopkins. “I have faced youth. Pascal hasn’t faced someone like me. He hasn’t faced a legend. He is hosting me in his country, on his turf, defending his title. He has a lot to be nervous about on top of the fact that when he looks in the opposite corner on fight night, he is going to see greatness. I can only add to my legacy. I can only continue to make history and back-up what I have already accomplished.”

“Dynasty: Pascal vs. Hopkins” is promoted by Groupe Yvon Michel Inc. and Golden Boy Promotions and presented by the Casino de Montreal, The City of Québec Tourism, Coors Light and Videotron. The 12-round world championship fight will take place December 18 at the Pepsi Coliseum in Québec City, Canada and will be televised live on SHOWTIME in the United States at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on West Coast) and distributed live on pay-per-view in Canada on Canal Indigo, Bell TV, Shaw TV and Viewer’s Choice in French and English at 7:00 p.m. ET.

Khan defeats Maidana via Unanimous Decision

By Admin  //  Khan vs Maidana  //  No Comments

khan vs maidana fight images 19 300x200 Khan defeats Maidana via Unanimous DecisionWBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan defeated Marcos Maidana moments ago by a 12 round decision at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino after surviving a 10th round scare in which Khan looked out on his feet. Khan spent most of the fight running and hardly looking like the next Manny Pacquiao. Khan fought like a chicken with his head cut off most of the time just running and stinking up the joint. Mayweather-es he was not.

Click here for Khan vs Maidana Fight Images.

I had the almost a draw with Khan barely winning. However, I saw nothing in this performance that would tell me that Khan will beat Timothy Bradley or that he deserves a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. For the most part, Khan reminded me a lot of Paulie Malignggi, but a more running version. I don’t think Khan is the next big start that his trainer Freddie Roach is dreaming about.

I think HBO needs to push for a rematch with a different referee working the fight, because Joe Cortez shouldn’t have deducted a point from Maidana.

Amir Khan (24-1-0-17KO) last night barely escaped with a very close unanimous decision over the tough Argentinean, Marcos Maidana (29-2-0, 27KO). Khan dropped Maidana in the first round via two vicious shots to the liver area but Maidana avoided an early ending of the fight by recovering nicely as the fight progressed.
