Back previously, we saw the very busy schedule of the pound-for-pound king as he divides his time with his family, his boxing training sessions and his duties as a Congressman.
While what happened in the hand wrap controversy prior to Margarito’s loss against Shane Mosley was briefly shown. “Tony”, his new trainer Robert Garcia, “Pac-Man” and Freddie Roach gave their views about it.
Also, the failed negotiations between Pacquiao and Mayweather was brought up once again. And as explained by Manny, he’s ok if the fight happens and if not, he’s not disappointed. He sounded like he doesn’t need Floyd at all and if we take a closer look at his achievements compared to him, it seems a fact. After this, it led to the fight against Margarito.
For Pacquiao-Margarito 24/7 Episode 2, both boxers are going to step up their preparation as their fight is just a few weeks away. More rounds of sparring and more intense training.

Pacquiao vs Margarito 24/7 Review: Part 1
With HBO producing, and Liev Schrieber narrating, a Pacquiao vs Margarito 24/7 spotlighting me would be engaging, evocative, poignant and dramatic. They could make the bland grand, turning my rather pedestrian existence into something majestic.
“Editor Mike changes Juliette’s diaper, deftly using a moist wipe to make certain that his most precious offspring is clean, and for the time being, serene. He stands over her a contrast in size, and a stranger might see his bald dome and hulking form, and register surprise as he makes goo goo sounds, and grins goofily, in an attempt to make the newborn smile. She does, and gurgles, and Editor Mike scoops her up, tenderly, and hands her off to his wife, Jessica. Because The Sweet Science needs his attention, because TSS Universe demands new content. If they don’t get, they get as cranky as Juliette, protesting her soiled diaper.”
Please read that last bit in Schrieber’s voice, and add some soundtrack music of your choice to juice it up…
HBO’s latest 24/7 takes a comprehensive look at the two principals in the November 13th junior middleweight clash pitting Manny Pacquiao against Antonio Margarito. The first installment ran Saturday, and we got a look at Pacquiao in the political ring, as Congressman. “That’s my dream, to serve people. I want to help them, because I know what they’re feeling. I know the feeling of being nothing in life,” says the seven division champion, who is gunning for a title in an eighth class. The Congressman has taken leave from the current session to train for his fight, and we hear that he gets constant updates from aides.
Is it possible, we wonder, is the man spreading himself too thin? Will he leave the sweet science to put more emphasis on politics?
Freddie Roach admits that he worries some when Manny talks about “missing his job” and he reminds the fighting pol that boxing is his number one vocation.
Viewers see in contrast that Antonio Margarito, referred to as “a disgraced ex champion,” is fully on message, looking to shore up his rep, tainted by his hand wrap flap. He tells viewers that he didn’t know what was in his wraps as he waited to face off with Shane Mosley. Most folks find that hard to believe, but we’ll likely get as much closure on this as we have on the JFK assassination. Margarito, in street clothes, tells us that he grilled trainer Javier Capetillo, asking him about the hardened wraps, and wondered why ingredients for plaster of Paris were found on the confiscated pads. His co-manager Sergio Diaz tells us Tony was depressed as he sat out for 16 months, after California pulled his license. “I’ll prove to the whole boxing world that I can win and I’m back,” Margarito said.
Roach and Pacman both tell viewers that they are sure Margarito knew. “It’s common sense,” Pacquiao says.
“We have to give him a chance to recover his career,” says the benevolent Filipino.
Moving on, we see Manny’s advisor Michael Koncz say that Team Pacquiao did compromise on the issue of drug testing while negotiating with Team Mayweather for a superfight, to a point. “We pretty much agreed to anything on the drug testing, except not within seven days,” Koncz says. We’d heard before that Manny had agreed to be tested at any time, no constraints, so there ya go…
Margarito doesn’t look like a man holding on to a sick secret, a toxic knowledge that drains his energy. His dimples are on display, and his team seems confident that he’ll get it done against Manny. Trainer Robert Garcia says he accepted the job training Margarito after accepting Margarito’s explanation about the wraps.
We hear that he’d had to drop 35 pounds in a seven week camp to get ready for Mosley, but we see him weighing 158 for a fight which is set for 150 max, or less. Team Margarito had battled for a few pounds more, but they hold little leverage, and lost this skirmish.
Footage is shown of Coach Roach in the Philippines, as schoolgirls giggle like it’s Paul McCartney and 1964.
Footage of Pacquiao sparring is offered. Glenn Tapia and Michael Medina are in to approximate Margarito. Pacquiao’s timing is off, and we see him getting whacked around some. “In Roach’s view, training is slightly behind schedule,” we hear, ominously, and add to that a balky left heel, which keeps Manny from doing all his roadwork. Also, the politics thing is worrying Freddie slightly.
Much ado about nothing much? Storylines to pad the show? Or legitimate points of worry? We shall see come Nov. 13. EM leans toward the search for storylines theory…
Margarito’s wife of 12 years, Michelle, says that the wrapflap has been tough on them. But she stood by her guy, we see.
Garcia smacks Marg’s belly with a stick for three minutes, a Signapore special of sorts, and EM wonders if he can last three..seconds, that is…
I am left giving Margarito more of a chance at toppling Manny, which is, I believe, the point of the show. “I feel powerful, I feel good about knocking him out,” the comebacking Californian says.
Part 2 premieres next Saturday.

The official 24/7 Pacquiao-Margarito drinking game
Manny Pacquiao and Freddie Roach have a mutually beneficial, highly successful, longstanding partnership. But they ain’t got nuthin’ on the one-two punch of sports and alcohol. That’s a team that has stood the test of time.
This past Saturday night was a perfect time for sports fans in the Raskin household to hit the bottle, as my beloved Philadelphia Phillies, the best regular-season team in baseball and the best postseason team on paper, found a way to be the second-best team in the NLCS and brought their season to an unceremonious end.
Alcohol makes sports more fun in good times, and it dulls the pain in bad times. While the San Francisco Giants were popping champagne corks, Phillies fans were crying in their Yuengling lagers.
And I was changing the channel to HBO for the premiere of 24/7 Pacquiao-Margarito. As regular readers know, the combination of that pay-per-view-pushing documentary series and the need to drink can only mean one thing: another installment of the 24/7 drinking game.
There are still three more episodes to come, so prepare your mugs and shot glasses, bust open your liquor cabinet, assign a designated driver and let’s all get plastered like a Javier Capetillo-wrapped fist. It’s time for the official 24/7 Pacquiao-Margarito drinking game:
Drink once every time HBO tries to make you feel sorry for Antonio Margarito for the persecution he’s endured.
Drink twice if you actually do feel sorry for him. Sucker.
Drink a Cement Mixer every time Margarito’s hand wrap scandal is mentioned.
Drink a Mind Eraser every time Pacquiao mocks Margarito for pleading ignorance on the loaded wraps.
Pour yourself a tall glass of milk mixed with table salt every time they discuss the “sulfur and calcium” found in the confiscated hand-wrap insert.
Drink until you’re hammered enough to enjoy Justin Beiber’s music every time you see Manny Pacquiao’s new hairdo. (Warning: This will likely recall additional trips to the liquor store.)
Drink like Ted Kennedy every time they show Pacquiao in Congress in the Philippines.
Drink like George W. Bush every time they show Pacquiao’s congressional seat empty.
Juggle cans of beer every time the narration refers to Pacquiao juggling his dual roles of boxer and politician.
Take a video of yourself drinking and upload it to UStream when Pacquiao reveals that his full first name is “Emmanuel.”
Drink a shot of your own urine every time you see a clip of one of the Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez fights. Chase with a glass of raw quail eggs (a.k.a. “turkey boogers”) if you choose.
Chug Gatorade if you find yourself saddened that a 24/7 is airing so close to Thanksgiving and you won’t get to watch Roger Mayweather do any holiday grocery shopping.
Drink a Tecate every time the background music is Mexican rap. (Why Tecate and not Corona? Because Corona doesn’t advertise in THE RING, dummy.)
Drink another Tecate if you assume you’re looking at scenic shots of a barrio in Mexico and it turns out to be Oxnard.
Drink a shot of Irish whiskey if, at any point during these four episodes, the producers figure out something new to tell us about Freddie Roach.
Drink a Fuzzy Navel every time you spot Gary Shaw in a new Sweatsedo. (Oops, wrong premium-cable boxing documentary series. Sorry.)
Try drinking with your mouth closed in honor of Team Mayweather anytime this past summer’s Pacquiao-Mayweather negotiations are discussed.
Drink a shot of Old Grand-Dad to celebrate the fact that Robert “Grandpa” Garcia actually almost looks like a grandpa now.
Snort a few lines of coke whenever they show replays of Pacquiao knocking out Ricky Hatton. (Note: RingTV.com does not actually endorse the use of cocaine. This is just a joke. Lighten up.)
Sip a glass of red wine, pinky extended, every time the narration mentions “Glen Tapia & Michael Medina,” ostensibly sparring partners of Pacquiao but believed to have first gained fame as a ponytailed acoustic pop duo from the late ’70s.
Pinch your nose and down a shot of tequila every time Margarito’s flatulence clears the room.
Repeat the above if Margarito wipes his bare butt crack with a towel before stepping on the scale.
Drink an entire six-pack if Garcia pounds Margarito’s abs with a stick.
Drink another one if a seven-year-old kid absorbs the same abuse then flexes his abs and you come to the conclusion that he’s twice as tough as you’ll ever be.
Take a shot every time they show Michael Koncz because … well, he’s Michael Koncz. Doesn’t his mere presence make you want to hit the bottle?
